Kasturba Hospital, Manipal is currently the only ECHS-empanelled hospital in Udupi district. With no other empanelled multi-speciality hospital in the district, access to specialised healthcare can be challenging, particularly for elderly Veterans, widows and dependants.
Recognising this need, the Udupi District Ex-Servicemen Forum (R) has requested Dr. T. M. A. Pai Multispeciality Hospital, Udupi to consider empanelment under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS).
Nearly 3,500 Ex-Servicemen and their families in Udupi district depend on ECHS for healthcare. A second empanelled multi-speciality hospital within Udupi would provide beneficiaries greater access to consultations, diagnostics, surgery, rehabilitation and long-term care, while reducing the need for travel to Manipal, Mangaluru or Bengaluru.
The Forum has highlighted the experience of other institutions within the Manipal healthcare network in serving ECHS beneficiaries and has offered to support the hospital in coordinating with the concerned ECHS authorities for the empanelment process.
Empanelment of Dr. T. M. A. Pai Multispeciality Hospital would be a meaningful step towards accessible and dignified healthcare for the Veteran community in Udupi.
