India is witnessing a significant demographic shift, with an increasingly ageing population bringing new questions around healthcare, companionship, financial security, active ageing and, most importantly, dignity.

It was against this backdrop that THE WEEK–Goodfellows Silver Economy Summit brought together policymakers, healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs, social-sector organisations and senior citizens to discuss what it means to build an age-ready India.

Sainik Setu had the opportunity to attend the summit, gaining valuable perspectives that closely resonate with its own work towards building a support ecosystem for Veterans and Military Families.

Learning for Sainik Setu

The summit provided Sainik Setu with an opportunity to learn from organisations and individuals working across the broader ageing and senior-care ecosystem.

The discussions reinforced several principles that are relevant to Sainik Setu's approach:

  • Dignity must remain at the centre of ageing.

  • Emotional wellbeing is as important as physical wellbeing.

  • Longevity must be accompanied by quality of life and purpose.

  • Companionship and social connection are important components of wellbeing.

  • Senior citizens should be participants and contributors, not merely recipients of care.

  • Technology should enable human connection rather than replace it.

The summit also demonstrated the importance of bringing together different sectors—government, healthcare, social organisations, entrepreneurs and communities—to address the complex realities of ageing.
